Sometimes things go wrong in the kitchen. And sometimes people take a photo of it and upload it to the internet. Here are some of our favourite kitchen mishaps, mistakes and disasters we've spotted.

"There's really not much you can do when you're holding a pan of boiling water in one hand and a colander handle, no longer attached to the colander, in the other."

"This was meant to be melted sugar for making caramels. Instead, it turned into a burnt, acrid, molten puddle which cooled into a rock-hard sheet of nastiness. Oops."

Another squash-related Thanksgiving disaster narrowly averted

Another squash-related Thanksgiving disaster

"We were roasting some squash for Thanksgiving. Half an hour in to the cooking, we heard a loud pop from the oven and found that the Pyrex roasting pan had blown apart. Took us the next 45 minutes to clean the glass shards out of the oven, including unscrewing the floor of the oven compartment."

"It's a peach muffin gone black!"
My God, they ate it

"Determined to at least get a good laugh out of it, I brought the cake to the party. We didn't serve it (thank goodness), but instead left it out in the kitchen with a description and picture of an actual King Cake and figured it would make a good conversation piece. And then people started to eat it. Now, don't get me wrong, it wasn't poisonous or anything – in fact, biscuits covered in cinnamon and sugar is pretty benign as food goes – but even *I* had some misgivings about eating something that looked like an oozing technicolor rock monster. (One guy even wanted the recipe!)"

A-Wallfle Disaster

"That's not supposed to happen. Dry ingrdients?"

"What happens when you mistake icing sugar for flour when making shortbread. Time to label those jars..."

Cremated duck carcass

"Lesson learned: When going to bed, turn the stove burner under the stock to "off," not "high"., in order to avoid Tragic Household Accidents. I'm lucky I didn't burn the damned house down. As it was, it took a week to clean the kitchen walls, ceiling, floor and contents of a fine film of stinky incinerated duck fat."

Tomato soup disaster

"Found an old disaster of mine. Hope you weren't hungry. I should add that this is *NOT* how I keep my living quarters. That was an apartment I shared with a couple other people, a few years ago."

"Watch as your carefully made meatballs dissolve into mush!"
