Are these really Britain’s best bangers?

Which? has decided on Britain's best supermarket sausages for 2014. We put them to the test to find out how good they really are.

Morrisons sells the 'best supermarket sausages in Britain' this summer, according to a test by Which? magazine.

The M Signature Thick Outdoor-Bred Pork Sausages were rated highly for their ‘meaty flavour’ and ‘well made’ texture and received an overall score of 82%. They’re £2.99 for a pack of six (or two packs for £5) at Morrisons.

In second place was Marks & Spencer’s own brand sausages, with a score of 76%, while Asda came third with 75%.

Which? editor Richard Headland said that they found that “supermarkets’ sausages are generally tastier than some of their branded rivals.”

What did we think?

Eager to find out if Morrisons sausages could live up to the hype, we fried a few in our posh new pan from Tefal.

They coloured nicely in the pan, and didn't emit much fat at all – although they do have a high saturated fat content, as you might expect.

Plus these saussies taste really good – a straightforward sausage with no frills, no fancy herbs, just black pepper and a bit of nutmeg (though the latter isn’t apparent in the flavour).

So while they could be a bit more exciting, there's a lot to say for the robust, meaty filling. Also, despite having just over 8g of fat per sausage, they're not that greasy.
