Regional differences

Nadiya Hussain, winner of GBBO 2015, is from Luton, Bedfordshire, and the gocompare research found that lemon cake is the most popular cake of choice in the region, whilst Mary Berry and her fellow Bath locals tend to eat Chelsea Buns as their favourite sweet treat. In contrast, Liverpudlians like Paul Hollywood enjoy a sticky toffee pudding best at the end of their meal.

Crumble is a popular dessert choice across many UK regions, but Buckinghamshire tops the crumble charts! In Buckinghamshire, 8.3% of all Instagram photos from the image data were tagged with crumble.

Queen Victoria's favourite cake has become a quintessentially English teatime staple at events and homes alike. But the Victoria sponge is apparently most loved by the people of Lincolnshire, with 32.5% of UK Instagram image tags found in the region.

What would be Peter Rabbit's favourite cake? Carrot cake of course! Although Carrot Cake originated in Europe, the UK region that most loves the creation is Bristol, according to the percentage of photos on Instagram.

Bakewell tart originated in the Derbyshire town of Bakewell and unsurprisingly is most popular in that region.
