Open daily at 5am to serve the local fishing crews, Becky's Diner is a Portland legend. Customers settle into booths, or at the long counter, and order happily from a menu of high-quality diner classics, interspersed with seafood and lobster creations. Lobster omelet? When in Maine! We love the quaint atmosphere and the mixture of tourists and locals. Prices are very reasonable too, though there can be a bit of a wait.
Maryland: Pete’s Grille, Baltimore
This long-time Baltimore staple was a favorite of Michael Phelps during his training days. Allegedly, he’d order three fried egg sandwiches, grits, an omelet, three slices of French toast, and three chocolate chip pancakes – but you can take it a bit easier if you want. Proudly serving delicious fare for more than 50 years, Pete’s does pretty much everything well; we like the scrapple and pork roll, and the melting-pot vibe of the place.

Massachusetts: South Street Diner, Boston
An all-night dining destination that's open 24/7, South Street Diner is truly iconic; it's been operating since 1947 and is often used as a filming location. Michigan: 76th Street Diner, Detroit
76th Street Diner is a truck stop, but it certainly isn't your typical truck stop. You can tell the chefs take real pride in their work, serving flavorful, well executed dishes. All the meat is sourced from Missouri, the portion sizes are huge, and the baked goods are made fresh, in house. Even better, the owner gives meals to those in need and runs regular fundraisers, so you know you’re supporting a place that pays it forward. Montana: Steve’s Cafe, Helena
Consistently voted the best breakfast place in Helena (and rated as one of the best diners in the whole of the US), Steve’s Cafe almost always has a line out the door. It’s a short wait, though, as the staff are efficient, and they even serve you coffee while you wait. Inside, the most popular dishes are the Irish Benedict, with corned beef hash, poached eggs, and Hollandaise; and the huckleberry French toast, stuffed with sweetened ricotta. Nebraska: Tina’s Cafe, Lincoln
Named after the owner's mom, whose time-tested home recipes form the backbone of the diner menu, this no-nonsense coffee shop with classic counter seating serves delicious homemade breakfasts: thick-cut bacon, huge cinnamon rolls covered in frosting, and delightfully large portions of biscuits and gravy.
