Incredible ice cream flavors
From banana oreo to eggs and bacon, we round up some of the most exciting ice cream flavors you'll want to try right now.
Prince 'Purple Rain'
To rememer Prince's legacy, Sweet Republic in Scottsdale, Arizona launched ‘Purple Rain’ – a grape and sour cream sherbet studded with bitter cocoa nibs – and topped it with ‘Raspberry Beret’ – a white chocolate ice cream with raspberry coulis swirled throughout.
Green tea
For the slightly more healthy-minded, this Japanese favorite is a pretty good combination. Green tea is known for its health benefits and ice cream is known for just being absolutely delicious, so who wouldn’t want a combination of the two? Look out for this in most oriental supermarkets or Japanese restaurants.
Red bean pocky
Also sticking to the Japanese theme is this red bean pocky, created by Colorado-based Sweet Action Ice Cream. If you’re wondering what the ‘pocky’ stands for, then it’s a Japanese chocolate biscuit stick. So just imagine a few of those crumbled up and mixed with some adzuki red beans and lots and lots of cream. OK, so maybe it sounds a little weird, but it certainly looks delicious.
Almond currant saffron
Anything with saffron in the title already sounds delicious. It’s one of the world’s most expensive ingredients, so you know it isn’t used hastily. The mixture, also made by Sweet Action, is essentially saffron-flavored ice cream, mixed in with a few currants and almonds – we’d imagine a sort of very sweet (and tasty) iced curry.

Bacon
It’s a well-known American tradition to mix sweet and savory together and bacon seems to go with pretty much anything, even ice cream. The Ice Cream Store, based in Delaware, serves up a whole mixture of bizarre ice creams such as this, but the bacon one seems to go down particularly well. What’s not to like? Ice cream: good, bacon: good.

Sunny side egg
Now imagine the tasty bacon ice cream with a whole fried egg thrown on top. For spring, Sweet Action decided to scoop up this new flavor, offering it in a waffle cone for a complete breakfast meal. You might be grimacing a little, but don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!
Full breakfast
But you want a little more than just bacon and eggs in your ice cream, Mackie’s of Scotland has made a full breakfast ice cream just for you. Inspired by a combination of the typical American and English breakfast, this one uses the flavors of pancakes, bacon and black pudding to make one tasty little frozen scoop.

Black licorice
Admittedly licorice is a bit of an acquired taste, but if you’re a sucker for Red Vines black licorice twists, then this recipe created by San Fransico-based Humphry Solocombe will be right up your street.

Salad
Another of Humphry Solocombe's leftfield flavors (yet seemingly delicious) is salad. You can’t really get much more 'summer' than a salad, especially if it's cold and icy. But don’t worry, there are no leaves in there, just the good bits – the olive oil, the salt and pepper, and some balsamic caramel. So basically all the bits that make a salad actually quite enjoyable!
Thai lime sorbet
The Thai lime sorbet pretty much as it says – a really limey, refreshing sorbet, perfect for summertime. This particular Sweet Action recipe contains martuk lime leaves as well as juiced limes, giving it an oriental kick.
Dairy-free caramel carrot cake
As well as sorbets, Sweet Action also cater for those who don't eat dairy, but really love the taste of ice cream. This caramel carrot cake, a mixture of vegan carrot cake and caramel swirl, not only sounds tasty but still looks just as delicious as the real deal.
Dairy-free lemon poppy seed
If you fancy a slightly more refreshing dairy-free ice cream, then Sweet Action also does this lemon poppy seed, which is essentially just as smooth and creamy as the standard dairy ice cream, but has a hint of coconut flavor.

Vegan banana oreo
But of all the dairy-free options, their banana oreo flavor definitely tops the list. Made with fresh bananas and oreos, it would even be hard for dairy-lovers to refuse.
Beet with orange zest and poppy seeds
This is possibly the most beautiful ice cream ever made. Food blogger Meghan Cassidy, who runs the blog Cosmo Cookie, says the fuchsia color comes entirely from beet, and the flavor comes from sugar, orange, cream cheese and poppy seeds. Sounds pretty great doesn’t it?
Strawberry basil
This recipe of Meghan's comes in a slightly less vibrant color, but with an equal combination of both sweet and savory. As strange as a herbal dessert sounds, the basil plays a similar role to mint. Blended with strawberries it makes for a really sweet treat.
Cinnamon bagel cream cheese
Everyone loves cream cheese, and everyone loves a cinnamon bagel, so this Sweet Action combination of the two mixed together with a cinnamon swirl really doesn’t need any further justification.

Almond lager praline
To celebrate the anniversary of Strange Craft Beer Company, Sweet Action decided to experiment with a lager ice cream (and why not?). The finished product was a combination of almond ice cream, Strange’s maibock lager and pralines.
Sweet Potato
It’s good for fries, it’s good for mash and it’s a superfood, but who would've thought sweet potato would be good whipped up into frozen cream and plonked on a cone too? According to Meghan Cassidy, all it takes is a hint of vanilla and lots of cream!

Chocolate chili sorbet
Everybody knows that chili and chocolate are a great combination, so a sorbet version is a guaranteed success. Sweet Action claims it’s a “chocolate experience like no other”, with a dense, rich, spicy and smoky flavor made with chipotle chili.

Rainbow
Based in NYC and Philadelphia, Big Gay Ice Cream is the epitome of color. This rainbow ice cream just about sums up the kind of experience the store likes to offer with original and exciting ice cream flavors. But let’s face it, what is better than ice cream entirely coated in hundreds and thousands? We can’t think of anything either.

Curried coconut
But if you’re not a fan of hundreds and thousands, don’t worry, Big Gay Ice Cream have given you the option to have your ice cream dipped in some curried coconut. And just look at how soft and fluffy it looks.
