2017’s most eggstravagant Easter eggs
Chocolate heaven
If you can’t enjoy chocolate on Easter Sunday, when can you? Here are some of the most luxurious Easter eggs available right now. They’re cracking…
Bulgari London Easter Egg, £26
Now we know the price tag for this Easter egg doesn’t scream exclusive, but when you look at the craftsmanship it deserves a round of applause. It’s made from 66% cacao dark chocolate with a sparkling red velvet finish. But what pushes it over the edge are the feather-like chocolate ribbons with a white chocolate and chocolate chip base. Get your skates on if it catches your eye, as you’ll only be able to purchase in-store from April 1 and we think they’ll fly off the shelves.
Claridge’s Easter Egg, £50
This year, Claridge’s have produced just 100 limited edition Easter eggs in three varieties, including the finest Valrhona dark, milk and white chocolate, and filled with salted caramel gull’s eggs. Each egg is wrapped in black-and-white art deco foil to match the lobby interior, and is the height of Easter egg sophistication.
Paul A Young Machu Pichu Egg, £75
This indulgent treat takes inspiration from the origin of its namesake: Machu Picchu in Peru. The glamorous egg is crafted from a 65% variety from Machu Picchu, imprinted with Mayan script and adorned with 22-carat gold leaf. And if that isn’t enough, there’s also a box of nine caramel ganache truffles to accompany it. But with only 30 of these limited-edition eggs available, you better get your skates on.
The Colossal Egg, Fortnum and Mason, £90
Do you ever wish your chocolate could be a game of roulette? If you like your chocolate to keep you guessing, you’ll enjoy this egg. The impressive 1.4kg treat splits into five different-flavoured eggs. First, milk chocolate caramel, then chocolate orange, chai, F&M’s signature Rose & Violet, and finally zesty Mitcham Mint. Chocoholics, there’s no room for disappointment here.
The Colossal Egg, Fortnum and Mason, £90
And in case you wanted to see the egg's centre in all its glory, here we are…
Fortnum & Mason Family Sharing Egg, £115
Fortnum & Mason has done it again, creating an egg the whole family can enjoy. The 1.25kg bundle of family fun comes with a variety of eggs and bunnies and will appeal to the little kid in you.
Pierre Marcolini Kimono Doll, £125
Not your typical-looking Easter egg, but stunning none the less. The 30cm high, 1.3kg figurine is made with Maison dark and white chocolate, with a selection of 30 miniature eggs in six different flavours including white chocolate pistachio praline, milk chocolate hazelnut praline, white chocolate almond praline and more. And if that wasn’t enough it also features 30 caramel animals and white chocolate bells. All for the bargain price of £125.
Pierre Hermé Oeuf Tagli d’apres Lucio Fontana, £136
This limited-edition Easter egg takes its inspiration from Italian Lucio Fontana’s work. Each 955g egg is made from Pure Origin Belize Chocolate and you’ll also get a 210g box of chocolates thrown in for good measure. And that’s all for £136.
Camille Walala, Harrods Easter eggs, £350
Artist Camille Walala has partnered with luxury store Harrods, London, to create three limited-edition Easter egg designs. With only 12 eggs in total, the eggs are the height of exclusivity. Originally from France, Walala says her prints are inspired by Italian designers and the Ndebele tribe in South Africa. Each 1kg egg is hand-painted by an artisan chocolatier, and would set you back £350 but aren’t they stunning?
Limited Edition Hotel Café Royal Easter Egg, £600
As a limited edition of only two eggs, this Valrhona chocolate egg is the height of exclusivity. The Easter treat was created by Hotel Café Royal’s executive pastry chef Sarah Barber and is painted with edible chocolate gold leaf and filled with gold Dulcey pecan nut praline. One will be on display in the hotel lobby and the other is available to purchase for £600. But it weighs 75kg, so you might need some help getting it home…
Charbonnel et Walker Big Bertha Egg, £650
With a name like that we’d expect nothing less than a showstopper. Big Bertha is the largest Easter egg Charbonnel et Walker make, weighing the same as a medium-sized dog at 10.5kg. The handmade shell is made from dark English chocolate and decorated in Victorian-style spring blossoms in chocolate piping.
Giant Atelier Easter Egg, Godiva, £1,000
Check out Godiva’s Giant Atelier Easter Egg specially created for Easter 2017. The luxury 13kg work of art is handmade in Brussels by executive chocolatiers Jean Apostolou and Ilse Wilmots, and features an array of fluttering white chocolate butterflies inspired by the Spring Easter Collection. This beauty can only be bought from one of Godiva’s four most prestigious stores in London. And at £1,000 each, how deep are your pockets?
Choccywoccydoodah, Fabergé-inspired Easter eggs, £25,000
Last year, boutique shop Choccywoccydoodah handcrafted Fabergé-inspired Easter eggs (pictured). The eggs were made entirely of luxury Belgian chocolate, weighed around 100kg and paid homage to the bejewelled 19th-century designs. A trio of eggs would set the customer back a whopping £25,000 to get their hands on either the unicorn trio (pictured) or dragon trio. But what does the chocolate firm have in store this year?
Choccywoccydoodah, The Hare Family, POA
The chocolate masters have done it again and created a series of three large eggs made to order, but this year fitting the theme of spring. Included is the 100kg Mr & Mrs Hare egg (pictured right), and Sailor Boy (pictured center), also weighing a hefty 100kg. Prices are available on application, but looking at the Faberge-inspired egg price tag, not many people will be finding them on Easter Sunday.
