The world is going crazy for animal cafes, and not just those containing cats. From rabbits to raccoons, dogs to hedgehogs and snakes to sheep, there’s a cafe out there to suit every taste. Here are some of the best.

It’s in the name, really. A new addition to the animal cafe craze, Rabbitland is a sanctuary for rescued bunnies.

Here visitors can pet the furry friends to their heart’s content while refueling over a coffee or sandwich. It’s already got 12 residents, but it might have a few more soon given standard rabbit behavior.

If not, head on over; for ¥1,000 (£7/$10) you get entry, a drink and a choice of your very own snake for the duration of the visit (kept in a clear box). Who needs an appetizer when you’ve got one of these gazing up at you?

There are cat cafes, and then there’s this. The name translates to ‘strange cat forest’, and it’s pretty much what it says on the door – a fairytale-like world devoted to the creatures, where doors are shaped into archways and cats roam free, looking completely adorable.

Dog lovers will be in their element here, where toy poodles and other pups greet visitors with enthusiastic jumping and plenty of affection. You can even take the dogs for a walk to the nearby park thanks to its “dog rental” offering – we’re there.

Seoul’s answer to the trend, this sheep cafe is home to two rather cute bundles of wool. They’re kept in a separate area outside, so you can go and pet them once you’ve devoured your waffles.

This elegant, feline-filled tearoom brought the cat cafe trend to London when it opened in 2014, and locals haven’t looked back since. The two-story cafe features a small selection of rescue cats which animal-lovers can pet over a 90-minute session while indulging in a quintessentially English High Tea.

For those who can’t decide on their allegiances, South Korea has the solution – a pet café which is home to both cats and dogs, kept on different floors.

One of the latest additions to Tokyo’s ever-growing animal cafe scene, this popular spot has all a hedgehog-lover could ever want. It’s filled with over 20 hedgehogs which visitors get half an hour to cuddle, and if you get too attached you can buy one to take home.

New York’s in on the game too with Meow Parlour, where you can rent a cat or, if that’s not enough, adopt one. There’s also a patisserie where cats wander round showing plenty of affection.

As the name suggests, The Huskitory is devoted to all things husky-related, featuring a shop which sells all manner of husky goods. At the on-site café you can feed them treats while snacking on some yourself – happy dogs equals happy humans.

Seoul certainly knows how to do animal cafes; at this one it’s all about raccoons, which makes a change from the more usual cafe animal residents, but dog fans never fear – it’s home to a rather loveable corgi too.

Spain has jumped on the bandwagon too, in the form of La Gatoteca, a cat sanctuary serving delicious fare from the Reina Sofia museum in Madrid.

The US’s first ever bird cafe opened in April, featuring parrots and other birds of prey up for adoption. They’re kept in cages so they won’t be flitting around in your face, but you can ask to pet one if you’re keen on getting a closer glimpse.

If kittens inhabit your dreams, you need to visit this place. Devoted largely to younger cats and spread over two floors, it’s a haven for humans as well as cats. There are even hanging chairs where you can sit stroking the beloved things. The decor looks amazing too!
