Do you feel like you’re paying more than you should for your broadband? Well, don’t stand for it. Here are five easy tips for getting better value for money.

1.Don’t pay for more than you need

Super-fast broadband is becoming increasingly popular with providers such as BT and Virgin battling each other hard to lead the market. But don’t be tempted unless you’ll use it regularly for things like watching internet TV or HD movies online. Otherwise, you’ll be paying over the odds for something you really don’t need.

2.Connection speed

Many of you won’t be convinced you’re actually getting the connection speed you’re paying for. First of all, use a speed checker to find out whether it’s really as bad as you think. Then contact your ISP to see if the line can be re-graded to improve the speed. There are others steps you can take such as repositioning your router, clearing out your cache, and securing your network to prevent unauthorised users from taking up valuable bandwidth. If none of this works, it’s time to think about switching.

3.Save some money with a bundle

According to Consumer Choices, a third of broadband users don’t take advantage of cheaper bundled packages which combine your broadband service, digital TV and your home phone. In fact, you could save up to £210 every year. Bundles are becoming more competitive too so make sure you don’t miss out.

4.Use a dongle

Alternatively, if you want internet access no matter where you are, mobile broadband could be for you. All you need is a USB modem or dongle, plug it into any PC and away you go. Better still, you could save around £132 every year because you won’t need to pay for a phone line. You can also save money by using a pay-as-you-go deal, and enjoy a competitive cost if you’re not a heavy user.

5.Get switching

Finally, once you’ve chosen a deal you’re happy with, remember to check whether it stays competitive. I would suggest you do this once a year. If other providers have launched similar deals for less, then once again, it’s time to think about switching to save.

That’s it from me. Thanks for watching. See you next time.
