It’s the final of the Great British Bake Off tonight – here's who we think is heading for a sweet victory.
After nine gruelling weeks of increasingly tricky baking, just three contestants remain in The Great British Bake Off 2014.
Who will prove themselves tonight and be named champion?
The series so far
Since I made my mid-series prediction, Kate, Martha and Chetna have left the show.
Kate went out in pastry week, where her pair of éclairs just didn’t have the same clout as her competitors. Next, Martha went out in advanced dough week, when her adventurous doughnut flavours fell flat.
Last week, the bakers faced the hardest technical challenge yet: a German cake called a schichttorte, traditionally cooked on a spit, with 20 layers. Chetna left out a few layers from that, and her showstopper, although well presented, was criticised for a lack of flavour – odd considering her track record. It must’ve been a difficult decision to make, but now there are just three contestants left.
The remaining bakers
Richard, Nancy and Luis are this year's Bake Off finalists.
Nancy has shown herself to have masterful presentation skills (let down slightly last week) with offerings like her jaffa orange cakes, which nabbed her the Star Baker spot in episode one.
Luis has consistently produced great looking bakes, which isn't too surprising considering he’s a graphic designer. His effort for last week’s entremets were incredible indeed.
But I still think that Richard is going to win. He’s now got more Star Baker awards than anyone in any previous series; the record before Series 5 was three, he’s accumulated five. He’s also managed to get it three times in a row during the last three episodes.
And, particularly after his incredible answer to last week’s Showstopper Challenge, I think he more than deserves to win the show.
