Out of 10,000 entries to the 2014 Great Taste Awards, 3,381 have received at least one star, with 153 going on to claim the much-coveted three.
Great Taste has finished doling out its star awards to entrants to the 2014 competition. Over 400 judges picked, nibbled and sipped their way through 10,000 entries, awarding stars for quality and taste.
At the end of all that, 2,531 products received one star, 697 got two stars, and 153 walked away with the top ranking of three stars.
A hard life for some…
In order to choose the winners, judges are presented with just the product to taste. There are no labels or wrappings to sway their opinion, so they rely on their taste buds alone to pick the cream (pun intended in some cases) of the crop.
They taste, confer and re-taste before making up their minds, and stars are awarded based on whether a product is ‘Simply Delicious’ (one star), ‘Outstanding’ (two stars), while the lucky few who receive three stars must taste absolutely ‘Exquisite.’
