Our favourite Easter eggs for 2014

Updated on 25 March 2015 | 0 Comments

Hurrah, it’s the most chocolatey time of the year again! To celebrate we’ve picked 10 of our favourite Easter eggs.

Montezuma Eco Egg

Dark chocolate with cocoa nibs, or milk chocolate with sweet orange – which Eco Egg will you choose? Available at both Montezuma and Holland & Barrett stores, this egg uses as little packaging as it possibly can. So that’s just some colourful foil, and an outer shell made from sturdy biodegradable paper.
Price: £7.99

Dulche de Leche Egg, M&S

A blend of milk and white chocolate flavoured with moreish Dulce de Leche, and accompanied by chocolate ganache mini eggs. We’ve tried this one, and it’s absolute luxury. An ideal gift for any chocolate aficionado friends, as it certainly won’t disappoint. The beautiful speckled butterfly design adds to the high-class effect. Price: £12

Candy Beans Egg, Cocoabean

A large, chunky, handmade egg made from Belgian milk chocolate and decorated with white chocolate and candy beans. It’s bright and colourful – the perfect egg for a child – and it’s nice to know that The Cocoabean Company is a family-run chocolate factory based in the south west of Scotland. Price: £10

Bird of Paradise eggs, Rococo

Brand new for Easter 2014, Rococo Chocolates has released an exquisite crate of Bird of Paradise Eggs. There are 12 small chocolate eggs made up of three different caramel flavours: kalamansi caramel; passion fruit and rosemary caramel; and Tonka bean caramel. They’re all handmade by Barry Johnson, Principal Chocolatier at Rococo. Exquisite taste, although it doesn't come cheap. Price: £25

Freddo Faces Easter Egg, Cadbury

The latest addition to Cadbury’s Easter egg range is the newly designed Freddo Faces egg. We love a Freddo here at lovefood, and think it would be a super fun egg for both adults and children alike. Plus there are five different Freddo chocolate ‘faces’ to swop and enjoy, alongside a small Cadbury chocolate egg. Our favourite Cadbury egg this year, and an absolute bargain too. Price: £1.85

Dark Chocolate Egg, Waitrose

A great option for all those dark chocolate lovers out there. You can always count on Waitrose for a decent Easter egg, and this year they’ve created a dark chocolate hollow egg complete with six dark chocolate salted caramel truffles. It’s a sleek design, with no fancy frills, and is guaranteed to taste seriously good. Price: £10

The Splat, Hotel Chocolat

A caramel milk chocolate egg with a colourful white chocolate splat – there must have been an explosion at the Hotel Chocolat factory this year! We think it looks fantastic and knowing the quality of Hotel Chocolat chocolate, it will taste great too. They also make three other ‘Splat’ eggs: 70% dark chocolate; 40% milk chocolate; and a high-cocoa white chocolate egg. Price: £12.50

Personalised Easter Egg, Bettys

Kids will love these personalised Easter eggs from Bettys, that lovely tea-shop-come-chocolate-shop chain in Yorkshire. Featuring loveable springtime characters (a bunny or a duck) and a touch of chocolatiers’ magic, these handmade eggs can be personalised with a hand-iced chocolate plaque. However, you’ll have to nip into one of the six Bettys shops to buy one. Price: £18.50

Paper Egg with truffles, Prestat

A beautiful Easter egg idea from Prestat. It’s a hollow Easter egg made from card instead of chocolate, with a beautiful golden chick design on the front. It comes filled with sea salt truffles. The idea is to keep the card egg (it would make a lovely decoration), and it’s a good suggestion for those who don’t like chocolate in huge quantities. Price: £5

Charbonnel et Walker Easter Hat Box

We’ve saved the most luxurious option until last. For £40 the Charbonnel et Walker Easter Hat Box Hamper is yours. A star prize for someone special, it’s brimming with Charbonnel et Walker treats including: a small dark chocolate egg with dark Marc de Champagne truffles; a bunny and chick, each filled with chocolate mini eggs; a box of sea salt caramel banana truffles; a small milk chocolate egg with pink Marc de Champagne truffles; and a box of rose and violet truffles. All wrapped up in a beautiful, powder pink hat box. Price: £40
