BBQ and meat festival Meatopia is coming to London on September 7th, and you can win a huge box of meat to celebrate it. All you need to do is tweet us a picture of your best meaty moment.

There are just a couple of weeks to go until Meatopia, London’s biggest festival of BBQ and smoking, takes place at London’s Tobacco Dock on September 7th 2013. To celebrate this, Lovefood.com has teamed up with Meatopia to offer one lucky winner £250 of meat from Turner & George, who are providing all the meat for Meatopia from their new site in St John Street, Islington. The prize also includes a pair of tickets to Meatopia. 

Turner & George is the brainchild of Richard Turner (Hawksmoor) and James George (East London Steak Company) and all of their meat is rare breed from British farmers.

To enter, simply tweet a picture of your best BBQ or grilling moments to @lovefood using the hashtag #KingofMeatopia. Richard and James are judging the competition and are looking for the very best cuts and the juiciest pictures. The #KingofMeatopia competition is held in partnership with Maldon Sea Salt.

What is Meatopia?

Meatopia has been described as a ‘bacchanal of pork, beef, lamb, chicken, duck, turkey and quail'. It has been running for ten successful years in New York. It's also been described as a ‘meat lover’s paradise’ (New York Magazine).  It’s a ‘rare breed’ food event led by chefs that is set to become a serious fixture on the London calendar, with chefs such as St John’s Fergus Henderson, Gizzi Erskine and Pitt Cue’s Tom Adams creating bespoke recipes for the event’s visitors. 

Created by well-respected food writer Josh Ozersky in 2003 in New York, Meatopia celebrates the very best of BBQing and music. All of the renowned chefs and iconic restaurants will produce their dishes in handy ‘tasting’ sized portions so guests can try as many of them as possible as they graze, chat, drink and dance their way through the afternoon. 

Meet the meat

Strong attention is paid to provenance and with Richard Turner at its helm, the meat will be in the safest hands in London. British reared and raised on independent farms and smallholdings by people who care about flavour and sustainability, the meat will be supplied by James George, MD of Turner & George and supplier to many of London’s most successful restaurants.

To wash it all down there will be craft beer, aged spirits and a fine selection of pairing wines. Music is at the heart of Meatopia – you can expect supercharged sets, jaw-dropping live performances, chuggy jams in dark corners and jump-up lunatic dance along smashers from bands and DJs spanning the genres.

And if that isn’t enough, London’s coolest cabaret, cirque, art installations, roaming performance, immersive activities and random acts of weirdness will add yet more colour, variety and spontaneity to the whole event.

Ticket prices:

Tier 1 £45 Includes tokens for 2 taster dishes and 2 drinks.

Tier 2 £85 For the true Meatopia fan. Includes tokens for a whopping 6 taster dishes and 6 drinks. Plus express queuing for the bars and a Meatopia goodie bag.

Teen £35 As per Tier 1.

Child £0 Children under 12 are free but still need to book a ticket to gain entry. As per Tier 1.
