We love cookbooks here at lovefood. Here are ten recipes written by our favourite authors.
Alice Hart, the youngest ever Food Editor at Waitrose Food Illustrated, is a chef, food stylist and self-confessed ‘feeder’. Her Vietnamese prawn and pomelo salad is sweet, hot, salty and sour, and includes ingredients such as peanuts, chilli, lime and ginger.
Amanda Powley and Philip Taylor are the brains behind vegetarian restaurant Terre à Terre, a very popular spot in Brighton. Veggie scotch eggs are just as tasty as meaty ones if you make them right, and the duo always serve theirs with piccalilli made from over 20 ingredients!
Anneka Manning has over two decades of experience in the food industry, and has written countless cookbooks in that time – including the very hand Mastering the Art of Baking. Her chicken pad thai is made delicious with palm sugar, tamarind, roasted peanuts, beans sprouts, chilli and more.
Catherine Hill has worked as a Food and Wine Editor for titles including Woman and Home and BBC Veggie Good Food, and published The Weekend Cookbook in 2012. Here horseradish beef is ‘simple beyond belief’, but the combination of fiery horseradish and soft brown sugar works a treat.
Denis Cotter’s restaurant in Ireland, Café Paradiso, is one of the best places that lovefood’s Charlotte has ever eaten. He has written five cookbooks and is famous for his inventive approach to vegetarian dining. This black bean soup is made with dark chocolate and chipotle chillies, for intensity and heat.
Fuchsia Dunlop, who won the Award for Work on Food and Travel at this year’s Guild of Food Writers Awards, is a cook and food writer specialising in Chinese cuisine. Her beef with cumin, which is marinated before cooking, is one of the most popular recipes from her Revolutionary Chinese Cookbook.
Henry Dimbleby is the co-owner of the Leon restaurant chain, and author of many a colourful cookbook. His ceviche is simple and fresh, and should be eaten with a glass of white wine on the side. Watch carefully as the lemon juice miraculously ‘cooks’ the sea bass.
Annie Bell began her career as a chef before becoming a full-time cookery writer and author. She wrote a whole ‘Gorgeous’ series, including Gorgeous Cakes, Desserts, Suppers and Greens. Her pecan pie is pretty as a picture and luxuriously deep and creamy. Use spelt pastry for a slight bitterness.
Vietnamese American Bea Vo is the woman behind Bea’s of Bloomsbury, a chain of beautiful cake cafes across London. She’s written a cookbook based on the cakes ‘n bakes she sells, including this vanilla layer cake recipe, complete with a chunky layer of whipped cream and strawberry jam.
Normandy pear tart
Ex-model Caroline Bretherton started her print career in 2009, becoming a regular contributor to The Times newspaper’s Weekend supplement. She has a couple of books published, including The Pie Book, which includes this pear tart recipe. It includes a wonderful Kirsch and jam glaze.
