Aldi bursts Fairy Liquid's bubble

Washing up liquid made by budget supermarket Aldi has beaten Fairy Liquid in a Which? test for the second year running!

Takes on double the dirty dishes

Despite being less than half the price of Fairy Liquid (59p and £1.25 respectively), one bottle of Aldi’s ‘Magnum’ Premium washing up liquid will clean 11,750 plates, compared to Fairy Liquid’s 4,292 plates – that’s over twice as much.

In other words… if you lined up, side by side, the number of 10 inch dinner plates you could wash with a 59p bottle of Aldi washing up liquid, it would stretch for almost 3km – that’s longer than the length of Oxford Street.

Aldi’s Magnum Premium Eucalyptus Antibacterial scored a respectable 79% in the Which? tests and was also awarded a Best Buy. Within days of the results, sales of the suds have shot up by 44%.

Up until last year, Fairy had topped every washing up liquid test since Which? first started testing it in 1965.

Tony Baines, Managing Director of Buying, Aldi Stores UK, said: “Last year we were delighted to come first in the Which? test, but to do so two years in a row is fantastic news. The increase in sales over such a short period speaks for itself – savvy shoppers know they don’t have to buy the most expensive product to get the best quality and this result proves just that.”
