Which is best: a bacon or sausage butty?

We're never scared to tackle the big questions on lovefood.com, and they don't get much bigger than this!

Antonio Carluccio has revealed to the Daily Express that his favourite food is a bacon butty (it must have been a slow news day). However, it did spark a debate here at lovefood HQ as to which butty is the best: bacon or sausage? Well, in the words of Harry Hill, ‘There’s only one way to settle this… FIGHT!’

Beautiful bacon

Pros: Smoky, meaty and ever so slightly crunchy, you can’t beat bacon. A good bacon butty features a lot of it, six rashers per butty we reckon. It also fits perfectly between two slices of bread.

Cons: Cheap bacon oozes white goo all over the pan. Good dry-cured bacon costs a fair bit more. You also need plenty.

Super sausages

Pros: The British banger is the weekly workhorse of families up and down the land - kid friendly, meaty, and able to take many more flavours and styles than bacon.

Cons: Again, a cheap banger is made with poor quality meat and isn’t nice to eat. Also, can a sausage safely fit between two slices of bread without falling out? We don’t think so.
