Cheapest online supermarket deliveries 2024

If you regularly do your grocery shopping online, it's important to find the cheapest delivery deals or you'll end up seriously out of pocket.

This guide explains how to do just that and covers all the main supermarkets.

But even when you find a supermarket that offers the best deal, you’ll need to keep an eye out for any sneaky increases in delivery charges.

As an example, Asda has recently hiked the cost of its Anytime Delivery Pass from £6.50 to £6.95 per month and increased prices on its Midweek Delivery Pass from £3.50 to £3.95 per month.

If, however, you urgently need groceries and don't mind paying a little more, it's worth looking into same-day services.

Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons are among the supermarkets that offer superfast deliveries where your groceries could arrive just one hour after your order.

Before the increase, prices were £35 and £3.50 respectively.

Asda has promised that if your Delivery Pass doesn’t save you more than you would have spent on standard delivery charges, it will give you an eVoucher for the difference.

Top tips for saving on all online grocery shopping

1. Sign up for emails with all of the supermarket websites, even if you don't intend to shop with them straight away.

Like all retailers, supermarkets often send out discount codes to lure us in, which will usually more than make up for the delivery charge.

2. Play the field. Never use the same delivery service twice in a row. Supermarkets tend to ignore loyal customers and send their best deals to those who haven't used their service\ for a while – bide your time and watch the offers roll in!

3. Complain, complain, complain. If there is anything at all wrong with your shopping (late delivery, damaged fruit or vegetables, items too close to their sell-by date, dented tins) don't just accept it, let them know about it.

Most customer service managers will often replace or simply refund your money, straight away.

What's more, depending on the problem many will issue credit notes too, giving money off your next delivery (which may cover that delivery fee!).

4. Compare prices for your staple items. Depending on what you buy, prices could vary at different supermarkets, which could mean that shops with low delivery fees end up costing more overall.

5. Don't forget Click & Collect. A number of supermarkets offer Click & Collect services, where you order in advance and simply have to pick up the shopping, which is already bagged up and ready for you.
