Bread sauce recipe

For me it wouldn't be Christmas lunch without bread sauce, it's an essential accompaniment and its so easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 0.5 Onion
  • 1 Clove
  • 1 pint Whole Milk
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 125 g Breadcrumbs
  • 1 pinch Salt and Pepper

Step-by-step

  1. Peel and slice an onion in half then stud the clove into it.
  2. Place into a pan and add a pint of milk.
  3. Add the bay leaf to the pan.
  4. Gently warm the milk until it is just about to boil then turn the heat off and leave the flavours to infuse for about half an hour.
  5. Add the breadcrumbs to the milk and mix well.
  6. Season with salt and pepper and serve.
