Michelada recipe
A michelada is a drink originating from Mexico and is made up of beer, lime juice and spicy tomato juice. It is classically served in a tall glass rimmed with chilli salt. The best beer to use in this recipe is a light Mexican beer such as Modelo, Pacifico or Corona. You will also need ice to fill each glass.
Ingredients
- 4 lime wedges
- 1 tbsp sea salt (we like Maldon)
- 1 tbsp Tajín (a chilli-lime seasoning)
- 150 ml tomato juice
- 50 ml lime juice
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp hot sauce (like Tabasco)
- 0.5 tsp soy sauce
- 2 Mexican beers, chilled (such as Modelo, Pacifico or Corona)

Step-by-step
- Mix together the Maldon salt and Tajín seasoning on a small, flat plate.
- Take two highball glasses and use two of the lime wedges to rub lime juice around the rim of each glass.
- Turn each glass upside down in the chilli salt and turn to stick it around the rim. Set aside.
- In a small jug mix together the tomato juice, lime juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce and soy sauce.
- Carefully fill each glass with ice and then divide the tomato juice mix between each glass.
- Then top up with the cold Mexican beer and garnish with some lime, serve immediately.
