Plum and apple crumble recipe
Nothing says comfort food like a crumble, and this plum and apple crumble from Bill's is a delicious way to round off an autumn meal.
Ingredients
- 6 large plums
- 3 green apples (about 500g)
- 75 g light brown soft or caster sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 finely grated zest of one orange for the crumble topping
- 175 g gluten-free flour
- 125 g butter, chilled and cut into cubes
- 50 g rolled oats
- 75 g demerara sugar

Step-by-step
- Preheat oven 200°C (180°C fan/ gas mark 6/390°F).
- Halve and stone the plums, then roughly chop and put into a large pan. Peel and core the apples, roughly chop, and add to the pan with the sugar, cinnamon, orange zest and 5 tbsp water.
- Cover and heat gently until apples are softening, about 5 minutes.
- Empty fruit into a shallow, ovenproof serving dish and set aside.
- To make the topping, put the flour into a bowl and rub in the butter with your fingers until the mixture resembles fine rubble. Mix in the oats and demerara sugar, then scatter the topping over the fruit.
- Bake for 25–30min or until the crumble is golden. Serve immediately with custard or vanilla ice cream.
