Step-by-step

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a pan with a pinch of salt.
  2. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 20–30 minutes, stirring frequently, until it has thickened and turned a dark orangey-brown.
  3. Scoop into a bowl and allow to cool completely.
  4. Spoon into new, sterilised jars and decorate if you're planning to give as a gift.
