There's a whole host of products hitting our shelves this month. We pick the most likely to tantilise your taste buds.
Vampire relishes
The Garlic Farm have come up with three gourmet relishes to give your Halloween a bit more bite. The Vampire’s Delight is a hot apple chutney, tangy and spicy, a great twist on normal apple sauce and perfect for dishes like this roast belly pork. Vampire’s Revenge, meanwhile, is a hot plum chutney – it’s blend of plum and habanero chilli. It is award-winning and great with red meat dishes, or even sausage and mash. Finally, the Vampire Relish is a hot tomato salsa with a good kick of garlic, great for a dip for tortilla chips – though perhaps not on a first date. £3.50 each or £12 for three.
Mercers of Yorkshire Ginger curd
Set to hit our shelves in October, Mercer’s of Yorkshire ginger curd is one of a range of preserves and jams made by husband and wife team Paul and Lizzie Mercer. It’s made from Australian Buderim ginger and is sweet and spicey – perfect for slathering all over hot crumpets or swapping for lemon in a swiss roll. £2.
Sweetcornbites
Unless you’ve got a set of state-of-the-art-kitchen knives, cutting through a corn on the cob is a challenge. Enter the award-winning Barfoots farm in Sussex, who using a very fancy set of air cutters, have decided to do the job for you. It’s Sweetcorn Bites are chunks of fresh corn on the cob, perfect for wrapping your gnashers round gracefully, or for kids to nibble on. There are no added nasties, and what’s even better is you only get the barrels of the corn, the succulent bits in the middle, rather than the ends. In supermarkets from October, £2.49.
Ed’s cider, sage & apple home cooking sauce
Colder weather always makes us want to drag out the casserole dish and slow cook into the wee hours. But if you’re pressed for time, you can whip up a tasty autumnal pork in cider casserole in about 20 minutes with new Ed’s Cider Sage & Apple home cooking sauce. Pan fry up some pork fillet, 
pour the defrosted sauce on the top and simmer for 20 minutes – that’s it. The frozen pouches contain only natural ingredients, no horrible preservatives. They also come in handy individual portions, great for a quick dinner for one. £1.89, in Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Ocado.
Gourmet raw brownies
If you’re peckish but you want something healthy to nibble on, these new Gourmet Raw brownies might just satisfy your appetite. As well as guilt-free, they are gluten, wheat and dairy free. What they do contain is energy-boosting buckwheat, low GI coconut nectar (no post sugar crash) and wither raw cacao or carob, both high in antioxidents. Seem a bit too healthy? Don’t worry, they come in five gloriously chocolatey flavours – Cacao cashew, Cacao cocobanana, Cacao mint, Carob hazelnut and carob orange. £2.99.
Bottlepink cordial
Bottlegreen pomegranate and elderflower cordial and pressé bottles are turning pink for October, in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. With the limited edition bottlepink pressé you can whip up a Super Blush mocktail, with raspberries, a squeeze of lime juice. Or if you’re feeling fruity, add a splash of vodka to liven things up a bit. As well as looking slick, 10% of the sale price of each bottle goes to Breakthrough Breast Cancer. £2.39.
Burts Chips seasonal flavours
As we bid a fond farewell to summer, we must also lament the loss of limited edition crisp flavours like barbecue and pesto. But, thankfully it’s out with the old, in with the new because Burt’s Chips are launching two new warming wintery flavours. Aberdeen Angus is back, after its success last year, and there’s also Bloody Mary, perfect for a warm-up nibble before Sunday lunch. Available from October.
Countrywise Kitchen Cookbook
The secrets from ITV’s mega popular Countrywise Kitchen can now all be yours. Co-presenter and chef Mike Robinson has put together a collection of the best recipes from 2010-2011, and thrown in some others from sister programme Countrywise. It’s packed with stews, roasts and soups – staple recipes like roast shoulder of pork or Thai noodle soup. The best thing is all the recipes are made from ingredients you can get at the supermarket, so it’s fuss free. £15, out now.
Halloween themed mini oreos
The first ever Mini-Oreo Halloween limited edition snack packs will be on sale this month. Pretty much the only difference is they’ve got orange coloured cream, not white, sandwiched between the chocolate biscuits. But fear not Oreo stalwarts, it’s still vanilla flavour so the taste remains the same – they just look funky, and come with a 40p off Mini-Oreo voucher inside. As if you needed another reason to buy them.
Thorntons Bakewell Tart bar
The last of the chocolatier’s centenary chocolate blocks, this bakewell tart flavoured beauty combines the flavours of almond, raspberry and shortcrust pasty with 37% Costa Rica milk chocolate. Thornton’s have released it to celebrate 100 years of their business, or chocolate jubilee, if you will. It’s all about celebrating a quintessentially British pud, but making it better by adding chocolate – which is the key to improving many a dessert, in our opinion. £1.79.
