What teatime treat takes you back to your childhood?
A new survey reveals the UK’s nostalgia for a certain chocolate biscuit.
A survey undertaken by children’s charity Dreams Come True has revealed that Wagon Wheels are the treat that remind the most people of their childhoods.
It beat other teatime favourites such as Pink Wafer Fingers, Iced Gems and Jammy Dodgers to the top spot.
The full ratings
When asked to think back to teatime treats, 43% of people said that Wagon Wheels reminded them of their childhood, followed by Pink Wafer Fingers with 35%. There was a noticeable female bias here, as 43.5% of women were reminded of their childhoods by the pink sweet, compared to just 26% of males.
Breaking down the statistics further, Wagon Wheels took the top spot in every region of England and in Northern Ireland – but Jammy Dodgers won in Scotland and Wales.

Dream tea
The survey was undertaken by Dreams Come True, a children’s charity that works with terminally and seriously ill children, giving them experiences to fulfil a wish that they can share with their loved ones.
Currently, the charity is promoting a ‘Dream Tea’ fundraising campaign, encouraging people to get together to enjoy afternoon tea, put on a cake sale, or just about anything else that involves biscuits, cake and a cuppa. Find out more about the campaign here.
If you need some ideas of what to make for your own teatime, try these chocolate bourbons from Miranda Gore Browne, or perhaps Rachel Allen’s orange shortbread biscuits, dipped in chocolate. Our collection of baking recipes might also be of use!
Nostalgia factor
Wagon Wheels definitely remind me of my childhood. Finding one in my school lunchbox was a real highlight of the day, and though I haven’t had one for a quite a long time now, I have no trouble remembering the chewy marshmallow and jam centre.
And who could forget the song?
On the other hand, it doesn’t have quite the same tie to my early years as my mum’s homemade pineapple upside-down cake.
