Christmas gifts for food lovers 2014

Updated on 23 October 2019 | 0 Comments

Here are some top ideas to inspire your gift choices this Christmas.

Every Christmas, food fans secretly sigh inwardly as they’re handed gifts they know they will never use and just add to the clutter in their kitchen.

While it’s the thought that counts, we’d rather get something that will actually leave its box! Here are a few ideas to get you started, but feel very free to add your own suggestions in the Comments below.

Nifty gifts

For the coffee connoisseur

AeropressThe Aeropress has found a strong following in the last few years because of its innovative approach to brewing, and the positive reviews around the world that it has received. It’s a handy way to make sure you’re drinking a great cup of coffee, wherever you are.

If they already have an Aeropress, you might want to take a look at its new companion, the Javajug, which can help you make multiple cups of coffee at the same time, and doubles as a (flame-heated) camping kettle.

For the muffin (wo)man

Muffin moulds

Muffin fans know that there’s nothing so irritating as carefully placed decorations sliding off the bun.

With these moulds, you can turn them into ‘cups’ so you don’t have to worry so much about construction failure.

And you can cram way more cream in, which is always a good thing.

For a good cause

Wonderbag

A slow cooker that saves energy and supports a charitable cause. Not only does that save you money, but the Wonderbag Foundation gives one to a poor family in South Africa for every bag sold over here. So you’re not only giving a gift to a friend, but to people who are very much in need. Read more about the Wonderbag in our feature, or head over to the Wonderbag web shop to buy one.

For the spice lover

Hexagonal magnetic jars

We think these hexagonal jars are great – they interlock magnetically, making great use of counter space.

They come filled with your pick of 10 organic spices, including some unusual options like mango powder, asafoetida and ras el hanout.

For the cook who wants to learn

If you know someone who wants to learn to cook, or wants to be a better cook, a cookery school class might be the way forward. The UK’s best cookery schools were named recently by the UK Cookery School Awards

For the cook without a book

Recipe books are a fairly safe option, and we’ve picked out 10 of the best for Christmas. Not an exhaustive list by any means, but there are some fairly new books out from Nigella Lawson, Jamie Oliver and Tom Kerridge to name but a few.

Make something

One great thing to do to show your appreciation for someone is to make them a gift yourself. Some fudge or nougat could do the trick, or perhaps some homemade biscuits. We’ve got hundreds of recipes that might inspire you to cook gifts up for your friends and family. Browse our recipe collection and get cooking!
