Would you eat a salmon gâteau?
Harrods is launching a new pâtisserie range for Christmas, including a salmon gâteau. Would you try savoury pastries like this?
As part of its Christmas 2014 food range, Harrods has created a savoury pâtisserie selection.
The selection is rather unorthodox. There's a smoked salmon millefeuille, a goat’s cheese éclair, and a potato cake with beetroot-cured salmon.
But the one that got me scratching my head the most is a salmon gâteau (see the main picture above).
Barmy or genius?
When we saw Harrods’ news, we were a little nonplussed, and not quite convinced by what was on the menu. A salmon cake? Really?
It’s formed from layers of Severn and Wye salmon, crêpes and salmon mousse – topped off with caviar and cream-cheese ‘icing’.
When you spell it out like that, it seems reasonably appealing, but it’s a lot of salmon flavour to put into one slice.
I told Harrods’ PR about my reservations regarding this – she assures me that the gâteau is excellent. But since the range doesn’t launch for another month, I currently can’t have a taste for myself.
Would you try them?
Would you try a savoury pastry? Are you moved by the millefeuille or swayed by the salmon gâteau? Have you tried other unusual but good savoury pâtisserie items before?
