Would you try ostrich steak?

Fancy trying something new? An Aldi promotion is bringing ostrich steaks to the UK at a very affordable price.

Ever tried ostrich? If not, you can give it a go for a fiver from tomorrow.

Aldi stores are stocking ostrich meat from 4th September, priced at £4.99 for a pack of two 150g steaks.

Speedy sales

Like all Aldi 'Specialbuys', the steaks will only be available while stocks last, so you’ll have to sprint as fast as an ostrich to obtain some. The birds’ red meat is renowned for its low levels of fat and high levels of protein, and isn’t found too often in England – unless you head to a specialist butcher’s shop.

The steaks were sourced from free range birds, raised in the area surrounding Mossel Bay, a harbour town on the Southern Cape of South Africa. The steaks are available in a Marrakesh or pepper marinade.

Joint Managing Director of Corporate Buying at Aldi, Tony Baines, said: “We have sourced some of the finest ostrich available… We know that shoppers are looking to enjoy luxury items, but at affordable prices and so we are thrilled to be able to fill the gap in the market.”

Earlier this year, Aldi were selling Wagyu beef from New Zealand at £6.99 per steak.

An alternative

If you're willing to spend a little more, you can pick up ostrich fillet steak at £8.99 for 170g from Alternative Meats, or if barbecue is more your thing (and there's any sunshine left where you are), grab a pack of four ostrich burgers for £7.16.
