Fancy making your own cheese and yoghurt? Or pork pies and piccalilli? Hartingtons School of Food in Bakewell is offering a place on one of their one-day courses to a lucky lovefood reader.

To celebrate the introduction of a new range of food lovers’ weekend breaks, Hartingtons School of Food in Bakewell, right in the heart of the Peak District, is giving away a place on one of their one-day courses at their converted mill cookery school to a lucky lovefood reader.

The winner can take a friend with them to either a cheese-making, butter and yoghurt course, or an artisan pork pie and piccalilli course.  

Fromage fun

cheeseThe cheese-making course, usually £145, is a fun, relaxed, hands-on course designed for those with an interest in artisan dairy products. With her 40 years of experience in the cheese and dairy industry, Chris Ashby, who also runs an artisan cheese-making course for Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall at River Cottage, will show you how to make everything from paneer cheese to homemade yoghurt and artisan butter. Hartingtons’ cheese-making course was recently featured in the Financial Times' five best cheese-making courses in the UK.

Pick pork pies

pieIf you pick the artisan pork pie and piccalilli course, usually £95, you will learn how to make the ultimate artisan snack food, the pork pie, under the expert tuition of Jacqui Marsden, a third-generation pork pie maker from Penistone. On the course Jacqui will reveal the secrets of hot water crust pastry, and suggest the best cuts of pork for pies. Jacqui will also tell you how to make perfect farmhouse piccalilli, and will give you a jar to take home and enjoy with your freshly-baked pork pie.
