Top 5 brunch dishes
If you're lucky enough to have a lie in at the weekend, you want something a bit special on finally getting up
When it’s cold out, and we’re all hunkering down like hibernating bears, we need a substantial meal on finally rising. Step forward then, brunch. It seems to make more sense in winter than summer in our book. Here are our top five brunch dishes.
1. Tom Aikens' sausage sandwich
A decent sausage butty is the easiest way to enjoy a quality banger (pictured above). You can eat it with one hand while flicking through the Sunday papers with the other
2. Ravinder Bhogal's French toast
Bread that is slightly stale works best for French toast, as it doesn’t disintegrate when you wet it with the egg. Cook the sandwiches over a gentle heat so that they cook all the way through and the chocolate really melts into a sticky goo.
3. Donal Skehan's egg parcels
Served as a breakfast or brunch for two, these egg parcels look as impressive as they taste.
4. Gizzi Erskine's eggs Benedict
Gizi’s toasted English muffins with avocado, tomato, ham and poached eggs are a classic brunch dish. She also tells us how to make cheat’s hollandaise sauce.
5. Omar Allibhoy's Spanish tortilla with Spanish olives and chorizo
Omar recommends eating the tortilla when still a little runny in the middle. Each tortilla is different, after trying them different ways you’ll find the one you love the most.
